Trades - Apprenticeship in Automotive Service Technician

This apprenticeship leads to Red Seal-endorsed journeyperson certification and an advanced diploma, delivered at SAIT's Main Campus with both fully in-person and blended (in-person plus online) delivery options across some intakes. The program runs four one-year periods, each requiring a minimum of 1,530 hours of on-the-job training paired with nine weeks of classroom instruction at SAIT, with students alternating between paid work experience at a dealership or repair facility and scheduled technical training. Beyond the general stream, the program offers dealership-specific training tracks with Ford and GM, which lead to manufacturer-recognized credentials alongside the standard journeyperson designation. The program suits candidates with mechanical aptitude, an interest in troubleshooting, good customer service and communication skills, and a working knowledge of electrical systems and computer-based diagnostics, reflecting how much modern vehicle repair depends on electronics. Graduates work as automotive service technicians in dealerships, independent repair shops, and fleet maintenance operations, and the Red Seal endorsement is recognized across Canada. This program does not accept international applicants, since it is structured around Alberta apprenticeship registration and requires a sponsoring employer to provide the required on-the-job training hours throughout the four-year term.
