Program details

Overview

Paralegals are unique to Ontario, providing specified legal services directly to the public for a fee without the supervision of a lawyer. This two-year diploma program prepares you to write the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) licensing examination and become a licensed paralegal in the province, in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society Act. Your learning will focus on both legal ethics and small-business practice so that you’ll be prepared to work in a law or paralegal firm, in a government setting or as a self-employed professional.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: DOMESTIC ACADEMIC ENTRY: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature-applicant status, plus English at Grade 12 C or U (or an equivalent course). Canadian citizens and permanent residents may satisfy the English prerequisite through Seneca's pre-admission test. Applicants who already hold a post-secondary degree or diploma may instead apply to the three-semester accelerated Paralegal option. International applicants must present credentials assessed as equivalent to the Ontario prerequisites above and meet Seneca's certificate/diploma English standard: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no skill under 5.5, PTE Academic 58, CAEL 60, Duolingo 105-110, Cambridge English 169 with no skill under 162, or TOEFL iBT with no skill under 4/6 (20/30). Tests must be less than two years old. Seneca lists this program among the nine it will not give a conditional offer to through the English Language Institute, so an international applicant needs the English score in hand rather than a language-pathway offer.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply through OntarioColleges.ca. For the September 2027 intake, OCAS opens for applications on 1 October 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, first offers go out from 1 November 2026, and the earliest confirmation deadline is 1 May 2027 with a CAD 200 deposit due the second Wednesday of June 2027. The January 2027 and May 2027 intakes opened on 1 October 2025 and carry no equal-consideration date, with earliest confirmation deadlines of 1 November 2025 and 1 March 2027. International applicants apply directly to Seneca, are assessed on a rolling basis with no fixed closing date, and are admitted up to the first day of classes or until a program fills, whichever comes first. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
