This program is fully accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs, and learning outcomes meet the entry-to-practice competency requirements of the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities.Things you'll learn to do Receive, identify, interpret and process prescription and non-prescription orders, herbal and complementary care medicine products Select, measure, weigh, count, pour, reconstitute, package and label products for dispensing Compound sterile and non-sterile products Uphold ethical principles and legal requirements to practice Work in pharmacy environmentsAll in-person lectures and labs will be held in Sheridan's Centre for Health Communities, a state-of-the-art facility designed to simulate applied health settings. Apply your new skills in your assignments, case studies, discussions, presentations and more! You'll also gain real-world experience through field placements in hospital pharmacy (160 hours), community pharmacy (160 hours) and specialty pharmacy (80 hours) settings.Develop core foundational skillsBuild a strong foundation of knowledge in core subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, pharmacy math, pharmacy legislation and pharmacology. You’ll also learn how to communicate with patients and clients in a professional manner; collaborate with other healthcare professionals; and manage pharmacy inventory to ensure safe, effective and efficient product distribution.Qualify for additional certificationAs a graduate of this program, you’ll be eligible to pursue technician registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), which is required to practice as a pharmacy technician in Ontario.* You’ll also be eligible to write your Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) qualifying exam and the OCP Jurisprudence Exam. * Note: When registering with the OCP, you’ll also need to obtain personal professional liability insurance, submit a police background check and declare that your past and present conduct meets the OCP’s good character requirements.Innovative learningSheridan’s Pharmacy Technician diploma program uses various delivery methods to support different learning styles. At this time, most GTA hospitals require that all students meet immunization requirements. This means students must be fully vaccinated (two doses) or have a documented medical or human rights exemption. We strongly recommend that all Pharmacy Technician students get their vaccinations as outlined above as soon as possible. A student without the proper vaccines will not be able to complete a placement in a hospital and this may impact your ability to graduate from the program.Sheridan’s Pharmacy Technician diploma program has been awarded Full Accreditation status by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs from January 2022 to June 2027.PPHTO
