Overview

This one-year graduate certificate provides specialised training for professionals who support autistic individuals across educational, clinical and community settings. The curriculum moves from core concepts in autism and behavioural science to applied skill-building, with emphasis on accurate documentation, collaborative teamwork, ethical practice and sound decision-making. Students study assessment and intervention approaches used with autistic children, youth and adults, and practise applying them in scenarios drawn from school, clinical and community contexts. The programme is delivered fully online, allowing students to complete coursework remotely. It is intended for graduates of social services, child studies, health sciences, psychology or related fields, as well as candidates with relevant experience in related sectors. On completion, graduates are prepared for roles supporting autistic individuals in educational, clinical, behavioural-therapy and community-service settings.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a postsecondary diploma, advanced diploma or degree in social services, child studies, health sciences, psychology or an equivalent field, or a postsecondary degree or diploma in an unrelated field combined with demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience. Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous related academic achievement and/or demonstrated experience. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Sheridan's institution-wide English Proficiency Requirement for degree, master's and graduate-certificate programs: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT overall 88 (no section below 21), PTE Academic overall 60 (no section below 57), or Duolingo English Test overall 115 (no sub-score below 95).
