Overview

Environmetrics is one of five streams within the Environmental Science Bachelor of Science major, offered by the School of Environmental Science in SFU's Faculty of Environment. The stream focuses on environmental statistics: applying quantitative and statistical methods to study humanity's relationship with the environment, including fieldwork and international study opportunities. Students combine core Environmental Science coursework in Earth's physical, chemical, and biological processes with a concentration in statistical analysis of environmental data, developing skills to design studies, analyze environmental datasets, and support evidence-based environmental decision-making. Because Environmetrics is a stream within the Environmental Science major rather than a separate degree, students are admitted to the Environmental Science major and select this specialization as they progress through the program. Full course requirements are set out in the SFU Academic Calendar's Environmental Science major description.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Environmetrics is one of five streams within the Environmental Science major rather than a separately admitted program, so it follows the same admission requirements as Environmental Science. For BC high-school applicants that means a minimum of five approved Grade 12 courses, including English Studies 12 or an equivalent at 70% or higher, together with required Grade 11 courses in English, Math, both Chemistry 11 and Physics 11, and Social Studies. Admission is based on an evaluation of all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, with greater weight given to List A courses. Students select the Environmetrics stream after admission to the Environmental Science major.
