Curriculum & Instruction - Ecological Education: Master of Education (MEd) is a master's degree in Education & Teaching programme offered by Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 3,411 per semester (CAD 3,411 per semester for local students).
This two-year, 35-unit MEd explores conceptual frameworks and societal perspectives on the environment, considering education for, in and about the environment and applying that understanding across formal and informal settings. Seven 5-unit courses run over six terms with in-person classes at SFU's Surrey campus, normally five to six weekends per term on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, and intensive field experiences during the summer terms. Second-year outdoor placements take students across the Lower Mainland and to Haida Gwaii, complemented by laboratory and research sessions, seminars on major global environmental issues, and student-led research and guided inquiry. Students are encouraged to weigh multiple perspectives on the goals, values and interdisciplinary character of place-based, Indigenous and ecological education. It suits teachers at any grade level, adult and community educators, Indigenous educators, outdoor and experiential educators, and park interpreters or naturalists.
