Program details

Overview

SFU's MEd in Arts Education is the coursework route through the Faculty of Education's arts education cohort, aimed at people already working in schools or arts-based educational settings. Students complete six core courses covering embodiment and curriculum inquiry, aesthetic education, artists and society, drama in education, curriculum theory and art education, and music education as thinking in sound, then sit a comprehensive examination graded satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Classes run in person at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses in late afternoon and early evening, with the cohort moving through the program together. B.C. K-12 teachers may be eligible for a TQS category upgrade on completion, and students may transfer into the thesis-based MA stream after four courses with faculty approval.
