Program details

Overview

This two-year diploma prepares graduates to join a licensed child care team supporting infant, toddler, preschool and school-age children, building their skills in communication, physical coordination, social and emotional growth, and thinking and learning. Registered Early Childhood Educators design curriculum around each child's interests and developmental level, working closely with children, families and other professionals, which calls for strong communication and social interaction skills.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of courses at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level plus Grade 12 English (ENG4U, ENG4C, EAE4C or EAE4U), as stated on the programme's own admission-requirements page. Mature applicants are directed to the College's general Admission Procedures. The page flags this as a high-interest programme that can become oversubscribed and advises applying before February 1. Before clinical placement, students must complete CPR-Level C, Standard First Aid (valid three years), a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (valid one year), and Electronic Requirements Verification, with COVID-19 vaccination expectations varying by placement site. No separate language-proficiency scores are published, so international and non-native-English applicants are held to St. Clair College's institution-wide English requirement for diploma programmes: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo 110.
