By graduation, students understand normal and abnormal human communication function, have a basic grounding in Applied Behaviour Analysis as it relates to communication disorders, and can draw on a variety of intervention techniques for communication disorders, working with both adult and pediatric populations.
The program also develops the ability to work effectively in an assistive role alongside speech-language pathologists and audiologists in implementing intervention programs, and to communicate and collaborate with professionals in related fields. Graduates qualify for membership with the national professional association for communicative disorders assistants in Canada.

Admission Requirements: St. Lawrence College's Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate (online) requires a minimum two-year post-secondary diploma or degree with a specialty in health, community services or social services, including Psychology, Linguistics or a related discipline. This program is highly competitive, and the college states that meeting the minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission; complete applications with all transcripts and proof of enrollment are due February 1 to be ranked. A Criminal Background Check is required before field placement begins.
