Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technicians are important members of the health care team. Interacting directly with patients, they perform ECGs and collect blood samples for laboratory analysis. Inside the laboratory they assist other professionals by sorting and preparing samples for testing, operating laboratory equipment, performing basic laboratory testing under supervision, and managing data in computers. This program includes two semesters of learning in our classrooms and laboratories followed by a final 4 weeks of field placement occurring inside the laboratories of partner hospitals and private institutions. The Mechanical Technician program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a career as a Mechanical Technician or go on to complete an apprenticeship as a Millwright (Industrial Mechanic), Machinist, CNC Operator/ Programmer, Welder, or other Mechanical Technician related apprenticeship. Upon completion of our program, graduates will receive an Ontario College Diploma as a Mechanical Technician. Wind Turbine Technician Energy, Environmental & Natural Resources On-campus English
The Wind Turbine Technician program will provide students with in depth knowledge and hands-on experience of the electrical and mechanical aspects as they relate to wind turbines. You will also learn fiberglass repair techniques as they relate to wind turbines. You will receive safety training for working at heights and in confined spaces. In order to complete this program, you must have no fear of heights and you must be physically fit. Students who are interested in the electrical field and who successfully complete the program may be exempt from the in-school portion of the industrial electrician and construction and maintenance electrician apprenticeship certification.

Welding and Fabrication Technician Applied Professions & Services On-campus English
The program delivers welding technology at the technician level and prepares students for the welding industry's demands. This market requires graduates with a higher level of theory combined with the practical skills needed to succeed in an industry with an evolving complexity level. Graduates of this two-year program are eligible to receive an Ontario College Diploma. They also receive the equivalent of all the in-school training necessary to meet the requirements of the provincially administered Welder ap­prenticeship program. Students also have the opportunity to chal­lenge the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification in several different welding processes. This allows graduates to provide employers with proof of CWB certification.

Veterinary Technology Agriculture, Animal & Related Practices On-campus English
This is the first of a two part lecture-laboratory course designed to introduce surgical nursing concepts for the veterinary technician and practice anesthesia of the small animal patient in a hospital setting. In Surgical Nursing 1 students will be learn the different roles they may play in the hospital setting. The focus will then switch to the surgical patient and students will learn and practice all steps associated with the surgical patient from pre-operative care, preparation and admitting, to intra-operative care and monitoring to post-operative and pain management of the patient. The students will learn to use and maintain equipment used for monitoring, as well as the name and use of surgical instruments in addition to the cleaning, packing and sterilization of these instruments. In applying this broad knowledge base, students will be able to apply and expand upon theory and techniques learned in previous courses.

Veterinary Assistant Agriculture, Animal & Related Practices On-campus English
This is a one-year hands-on program focus­ing on the skills required to work in careers involving animal care. Students spend a large portion of their time working with animals. Students develop safe handling skills and learn how to perform physical examinations and treatments. The students operate the SLC "Scruffy Dog Salon” where they groom dogs under the supervision of experienced groomers. Lab time is also spent learning surgical sup­port techniques and basic clinical laboratory procedures which aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in domestic animals. Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Fire, Justice & Security 3 semesters On-campus English
Everything we do we believe in challenging the status quo and we believe in thinking differently.The way we challenge the status quo is by being innovative with our delivery, smaller class sizes, great instructor-to-student ratio and by our close partnership with our area Fire Services.For more than 15 years the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program at St. Lawrence College has successfully provided students with the knowledge and skills required to become firefighters. Students develop a sound knowledge of fire dynamics, fire suppression, fire prevention, auto extrication, emergency patient care, simulated and controlled live fire training scenarios and community service. Students also receive assistance with their resumé, career planning and attend a mock interview session in preparation for the job application process. A St. Lawrence College graduate will be career-ready and prepared to enter the fire service industry.In 2019, we added some exciting new courses to our program. FIRE 1035 follows the NFPA 1035 standard for Fire and Life Safety Educator Level 1. This course builds on the Community Risk Reduction section of NFPA 1001 and gives the student more in-depth knowledge and skills required in relation to Fire Prevention and Education. FIRE 800 Emergency Medical Responder now follows the Canadian Red Cross EMR program and the participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations. At the end of the course, the participant will be able to take the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder certification hosted at the college.

This two-semester Ontario College Certificate program prepares individuals for successful admission to, and future success in, diploma and degree-level Health Sciences programs and other post-secondary studies. Program content provides students with the required knowledge and skills to meet admission requirements for a range of diploma and degree-level programs and with transferable post-secondary credits where relevant. Students acquire knowledge and develop skills in communications, mathematics and sciences preparing them for the rigours of their next academic program. This program prepares graduates to practice according to the Entry to Practice Competencies and Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. If you want to work in the growing and highly specialized field of applied behaviour analysis, the Behavioural Science program is where you want to be. For over four decades, the Behavioural Science program has trained students to work front-line with a wide range of client populations in a variety of areas within the human services field. Students are taught how to develop and implement behavioural interventions to teach skills to clients and/or reduce challenging behaviours. Students interested in this program should have a strong desire to work with populations who present with complex behavioural, cognitive, emotional and/or psychological issues. They should also be comfortable working with any population that presents with disruptive behaviours and/or intellectual challenges. Students coming to the program need to be prepared to complete practicum placements working with any of the client populations listed below under career opportunities. Our program trains students in specific treatment options that can be applied to work with any individual who presents with challenges rather than preparing students to work with only one or a specific client population.

Biotechnology - Advanced Health, Food & Medical On-campus English
Do you love all things science? Investigating questions? Setting up experiments? The Biotechnology Advanced program at St. Lawrence College is a predominantly hands-on, laboratory, and practical based course. As a student you will perform genetic assays, investigate contaminated soil and water, determine food-borne illnesses, clone for proteins, ferment antibiotics, and create plant hybrids. According to Statistics Canada, Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing global industries with Canada providing a strong and growing employer base in the biotech sector necessitating the demand for well-trained laboratory personnel. Our program employs contemporary molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, biochemistry, fermentation and protein technology, applied genetics, cell culture, environmental and analytical instrumentation labs that offer practical training in all aspects of biotechnology with a focus on the hands-on applied skills that ensure our students are ready for immediate integration into the work force. The final 14-week semester of our program is dedicated to providing a real-world learning opportunity by placing our students in a research or industrial work site as an entry-level Biotechnologist.

Throughout the program CP students apply concepts learned in the classroom to solve programming problems. They learn to work in project teams, in which they design, develop, and test applications. The CP program is a two-year program in which students learn a wide variety of skills, ranging from basic programming practices, problem-solving, software design, critical thinking and application development. Over the duration of the program, students will learn to write programs for desktop and web. Students learn many programming languages, including C#, C++, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and Java, and are taught the skills to learn other languages. There is a worldwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals as every organization seeks ways to make their data more secure. Once you graduate from this eight-month, full-time graduate certificate program, you will be equipped with skills to protect your organization’s computers, servers, networks, and applications from breaches and unauthorized access. The courses in the program will give you an edge in detecting breaches, computer forensics, threat hunting, and penetration testing.

This program will prepare the student to fill the role of technical support in the dynamic and expanding field of client/server comput­ing, cloud computing, O/S virtualization, enterprise networks, administration and Internet management. Students complete a work placement component that provides on-the-job training with a local company in their final semester. Our courses are constantly evolving to incorporate a blend of leading edge and traditional technologies to meet the needs of local employers. This program is well suited to people who are interested in computers, but not math, physics or electronics. Many of the courses in the CN&TS program train the students towards obtaining Microsoft, A+, LPIC-1, and Network + certifications.

Community Integration Through Co-Operative Education On-campus English
The Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) program is an academic based program. It is a two-year certificate program designed for adults with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries or other significant learning challenges who wish to further their education/vocational training in a community college setting. CICE students will have the opportunity to complete an individualized CICE program of study including courses from a minimum of two or more areas of concentration selected from St. Lawrence College’s program offerings. Each semester, students will take 5 courses, each 3-4 hours in length. A Learning Specialist attends elective classes with students to support their academic needs. Elective course choices may depend on seat availability and program suitability.

In preparation for these careers, this program offers two robust Professional Placements in the community, totalling 400 hours. Graduates can move forward into these careers by being prepared to carry out duties and responsibilities in the prevention, management and resolution of conflict, crises, and emergency situations in institutional and community justice settings using various intervention strategies. Civil Engineering Technologists play an important role in the efficient and sustainable operation of our cities and infrastructure. They are core members of the teams that plan, design, construct, and maintain buildings, roads, bridges, sewers, and water distribution systems. These systems keep our transportation systems operating, water flowing and provide safe structures for private and public services. With a focus on municipal engineering, structural design, water resources and surveying this three-year advanced diploma provides a strong foundation in core civil engineering subjects. The course work provides a balanced education in engineering theory, combined with practical work in laboratories and in the field.

In this course, students will continue to study the principles used to identify, select, and maintain hand tools and portable power tools. The student will study the principles used to identify, select, and maintain stationary shop equipment such as table saws and jointers. The student will learn to incorporate industry-standard practices in the safe and efficient use of these tools. The course will continue to study the principles and practices used to frame a roof, focusing on equal pitch hip and intersecting roofs. The student will study the principles and practices of shaping and joining lumber using wood joints, fasteners, and adhesives. The use of the Imperial and Metric systems of measurement will be developed in this course.

The Business Fundamentals program provides students with a broad and exploratory business education. It covers business basics such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Mathematics, and Business Communications. This program serves as the first year for the Business Core diplomas—Business, Accounting, Human Resources, and Marketing—and graduates can choose to pursue one of these diplomas or use their Business Fundamentals certificate as a foundation for other programs of study or their career. Start this program in September, October or January. *NOTE: You can start this program in October and January.
