Overview
Communicative disorders assistants play a key role in supporting speech-language pathologists and audiologists to implement and monitor established treatment programs, support screening and assessment of hearing and speech function, and maintain equipment or therapy materials used to facilitate communication skills. Through a combination of theory lectures, immersive simulation experiences, highly engaging hands-on small group lab learning with specialized equipment in our state-of-the art hearing instrument specialist lab, you will be able to develop the knowledge, practical skills and judgement required to carry out treatment plans developed by registered speech-language pathologists or audiologists.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to this Ontario College Graduate Certificate requires an Ontario College Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree with a focus or concentration in communicative disorders, linguistics, cognitive sciences, psychology, health sciences, social services, or human social services; applicants who do not meet this credential requirement may instead submit a record of volunteer or paid work experience in a clinical setting with a speech-language pathologist, audiologist, or communicative disorders assistant, with final acceptance based on a review of that documentation against Conestoga's published guidelines and rubric. As a graduate certificate, the program carries Conestoga's higher English-language band, applied where transcripts are not in English: IELTS Academic overall band 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no skill below 22, PTE Academic 58, or CAEL 70 overall with no sub-test below 60. Canadian applicants with foreign transcripts require assessment by ICAS or WES.
