This graduate certificate prepares registered nurses to expand their scope of practice to include prescribing medications for specific conditions such as contraception, immunizations, smoking cessation and topical wound care, in settings including long-term care and retirement homes. The program consists of three semester-long courses, two theory courses delivered online in an asynchronous format and one clinical practicum, to be completed within one calendar year. Admission requires proof of active, unrestricted registration as a registered nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, along with evidence of at least 3,900 hours of direct post-graduation clinical practice within the previous five years. Applicants must identify a potential clinical placement under the supervision of a nurse practitioner or physician, and the clinical practicum requires current CPR Level C-HCP certification, a clear vulnerable sector check, and up-to-date immunizations.
