Overview
The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Computer Engineering focuses on how to develop, design, and test software, computer networks, and protocols. After completing the foundation year, two educational streams are offered in second year: the project integrated program, which integrates principles of electrical and computer engineering with project work, and the traditional integrated learning method. Some undergraduate curriculum changes will emphasize laboratory work and engineering design. Requirements
Admission Requirements: IB applicants need a completed IB Diploma with three Higher Level subjects, IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL or HL Math Applications (IB Math Applications and Interpretation SL and IB Math Studies do not satisfy the requirement), IB Chemistry, and IB Physics; academically strong candidates missing IB Chemistry or IB Physics may still be evaluated case by case. Domestic Canadian secondary-school applicants follow the Faculty of Applied Science's equivalent path at UBC Okanagan: English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 plus Chemistry 12 and Physics 12, judged on UBC's overall Grade 11/12 profile with no published institution-wide entry average, so each program competes against its own applicant pool. International applicants may instead present GCE A/AS Levels, the Baccalaureat, or another approved twelve-year credential covering equivalent prerequisites. All applicants must meet UBC's English Language Admission Standard, whose routes include IELTS Academic overall 6.5.
Application Details
Start Date:September 2027 - entry is to UBC's Winter Session, which runs September 2027 to April 2028 (Term 1 September to December, Term 2 January to April). UBC also runs a Summer Session from May to August, but not every degree admits to it.
Application Deadline:Apply by 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, for September 2027 entry (Winter Session 2027/28) - this is UBC's university-wide undergraduate deadline and it is the same date for Canadian and international applicants, not a date set by this program. The online application opens in early October 2026 through EducationPlannerBC. Earlier dates apply only to major entrance awards: 15 November 2026 for international applicants (UBC International Scholars Program) and 1 December 2026 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents (Presidential Scholars, UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance and Beyond Tomorrow Scholars). UBC advises applying by the deadline because some programs stop accepting applications on that date; later applications may be considered but are not given the same priority. Document deadlines (transcripts, English-language evidence) are issued to each applicant in the Applicant Service Centre after applying.
