This dual-degree program combines the BASc Civil Engineering curriculum with a Bachelor of Science in Computing Technology, totalling 162 units: 129 units from the Civil Engineering component plus 30 additional units for the Computing Technology component. Civil engineers design the infrastructure communities depend on, including buildings and their foundations, bridges, canals, dams, transportation facilities, and municipal sewer, water, wastewater and solid waste treatment systems. Students develop expertise in computer applications, field and laboratory testing, and project management, supported by advanced teaching facilities. Both credentials are awarded by the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering on completion of the combined coursework, giving graduates a civil engineering degree together with a second credential in computing technology. Graduates of the dual program are equipped to work across infrastructure design and construction roles while also holding a recognized computing credential.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), Advanced Functions 4U (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), and Physics 4U (SPH4U); Biomedical Mechanical Engineering additionally requires Biology 4U (SBI4U). The published minimum admission average is 80%, with a minimum combined average of 70% required across the science and mathematics prerequisite courses specifically. This line applies uniformly across Biomedical Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering and their combined-degree variants with BSc Computing Technology, as well as the civil-engineering structural/geotechnical and environmental/water-resources options, since the Faculty of Engineering publishes one admission line per base discipline regardless of the option chosen within it. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission in a competitive cycle.
