Program details

Overview

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computing Technology is a dual fast-track degree combining the Electrical Engineering curriculum, covering communications, systems, electronics, microwave and photonic, and power and sustainable energy specializations, with a Computing Technology credential, positioning graduates at the intersection of the two fields. Delivered on campus at the University of Ottawa's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science over five years, the program totals 153 units. The program is offered in English and in French: all courses are taught in English, and most are also available in French. A co-operative education option is available, and the Electrical Engineering component is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Graduates are prepared for combined hardware, software, and computing careers, or for graduate study in electrical and computer engineering.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), Advanced Functions 4U (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), and Physics 4U (SPH4U); Biomedical Mechanical Engineering additionally requires Biology 4U (SBI4U). The published minimum admission average is 80%, with a minimum combined average of 70% required across the science and mathematics prerequisite courses specifically. This line applies uniformly across Biomedical Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering and their combined-degree variants with BSc Computing Technology, as well as the civil-engineering structural/geotechnical and environmental/water-resources options, since the Faculty of Engineering publishes one admission line per base discipline regardless of the option chosen within it. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission in a competitive cycle.
