The Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computing Technology is a dual fast-track degree applying the fundamentals of science and mathematics to mechanical, thermal, and biomedical systems and devices, from computer parts to power plants and from manufacturing systems to spacecraft, combined with a Computing Technology credential. Delivered on campus at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering over five years, the program totals 162 units and includes a Mechanical Engineering Capstone Project. The program is offered in English and in French: all courses are taught in English, with first- and second-year courses and some third-year courses also available in French. A co-operative education option is available, and the Mechanical Engineering component is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Graduates find work across manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, energy, and biomedical sectors, or continue to graduate study in mechanical engineering.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), Advanced Functions 4U (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), and Physics 4U (SPH4U), the same course list as the other core engineering disciplines. The published minimum admission average is 84%, higher than the 80% baseline used for Biomedical Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering, reflecting stronger demand for the Mechanical Engineering program specifically. A minimum combined average of 70% is required across the science and mathematics prerequisite courses. This line applies to both the standalone BASc Mechanical Engineering and its combined-degree variant with BSc Computing Technology. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission in a competitive cycle.
