Overview
The Master of Educational Technology from UBC's Faculty of Education is delivered entirely online and examines how learning technologies can be used, and what effects they have, across many different educational settings. The degree is coursework-only and consists of ten three-credit courses: four required core courses plus six electives, which students may take in whatever sequence and at whatever pace suits them. Most enrolled students are mid-career professionals working in education somewhere in the world, and the curriculum is written for K-12 teachers, college and university instructors, adult and industry trainers, and course designers alike. Faculty members teaching in the program work at the leading edge of curriculum design and technology integration. Recent graduates have taken about 2.3 years on average to finish.

Admission Requirements: Admission is handled by UBC's Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Applicants need a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) and a Bachelor's degree, with no specific field mandated; the GRE is not required. The English Language Proficiency requirement applies to anyone whose prior degree was not from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction, with tests taken within the last 24 months: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall on the 6-point scale used from January 2026 onward or 90 overall on the prior 120-point scale (Reading 22, Writing 22, Speaking 21, Listening 22), or Duolingo English Test 125 overall. Applicants submit transcripts from every post-secondary institution, three letters of reference and, for most programs, a statement of interest.

Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
