Overview
This is the fully online Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), a professional graduate degree offered by the School of Library and Information Studies within the University of Alberta's Faculty of Education, and the only ALA-accredited library and information studies program in the Canadian prairie provinces. All core courses and electives are delivered online and asynchronously, and the program develops skills in identifying information needs, evaluating and managing information, and organizing records and knowledge for library and information organizations. The online pathway is part-time and course-based only, with the thesis option and the combined MA/MLIS and MBA/MLIS programs unavailable to online students; most online students complete the degree in three to four years, within a six-year maximum. The program is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of the American Library Association, recognition that is also accepted by the Canadian Library Association. Admission is for the Fall term only.

Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a completed four-year undergraduate degree (or a three-year degree plus one additional year of coursework) from a recognized institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale (or a B average on letter-grading systems), based on the last 60 credits or two years of full-time coursework; the GRE is not accepted. Non-native English speakers must demonstrate English Language Proficiency (e.g. TOEFL iBT 100 with a minimum of 21 per skill area, IELTS Academic overall 7.5 with a minimum of 7.0 per band, or equivalent). Applicants must show technology proficiency and submit academic transcripts, a roughly 1,000-word statement of purpose, a current CV or resume, and two referee letters, along with a CAD $135 application fee. Applications open September 15 and close December 15 for Fall-term entry.
