BA/BS in Technical-Vocational Teacher Education

This joint program with Red River College Polytechnic trains tradespeople to become teachers, covering teaching methodology, the development and assessment of vocational courses, computer applications, and the design of facilities for delivering vocational education. Students first complete 94 credit hours at RRC Polytech, earning a diploma, then complete a further 60 credit hours at the University of Winnipeg to earn a Bachelor of Education with a major in vocational education. The University segment includes an 18-week teaching practicum placed at a local high school, and the program can be completed full-time or part-time. Graduates become eligible for a Teaching Certificate from Manitoba Education. It is designed for people already working in a trade — applicants need a Red Seal, a certificate of qualification, or documented trade experience — who want to transition from industry practice into teaching that trade within the public education system, applying their existing technical expertise in a classroom setting.
