Overview
The Drawing and Painting Certificate is a 30-credit, one-year certificate delivered on-campus at Thompson Rivers University's Kamloops campus. The program builds skills in two-dimensional media, covering drawing techniques and paint mixing across a range of tools and materials, alongside the historical and contemporary context of artistic practice, developing a working knowledge of past and present approaches to drawing and painting. Students have regular opportunities to show work on campus and at local venues, and may be eligible for study-abroad opportunities that include features at international galleries. Entry is direct from Grade 12 or through mature-student status, with upgrading and university-preparation pathways available for applicants who do not yet meet that requirement; the credential awarded is a Drawing and Painting Certificate.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires Grade 12 (or equivalent) or mature-student status, and English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at a minimum of 73%, or the TRU equivalent. High-school graduates who do not meet the requirement can upgrade at TRU; mature students without a diploma may complete the BC High School Graduation Diploma through TRU coursework; and those who do not qualify for mature-student status can pursue the TRU University Preparation program. International applicants meet Thompson Rivers University's institution-wide English-language bar for direct entry into an undergraduate certificate program: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 20.
