Overview
The Sport Event Management Diploma is about business skills and event management expertise required to organize and market sports events, recruit and motivate volunteers and find sponsors at the corporate, professional or amateur level, in the context of the importance of sporting events in Canadian culture. Learn key business skills and develop the expertise to successfully plan, market and execute both small- and large-scale events in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. You will also gain a deep understanding of the economic, social and cultural impacts of sport events and sport tourism, as well as the complexities of the sports marketplace. Theory is blended with real-world experiences—including hands-on projects with organizations such as the local WHL hockey club (Kamloops Blazers), Spartan Canada, Sun Peaks Resort, Pacific Sport and the Kamloops Sports Council.

Admission Requirements: Domestic entry requires Grade 12 completion or mature-student status, English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at a minimum of 73% (or TRU's ESAL 0570 and 0580, or ENGL 0600/0601, as an equivalent), and Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-Calculus 11, or Foundations of Mathematics 12 at a minimum C, with a C+ or higher in Pre-Calculus 12 exempting a student from MATH 1100. The diploma page publishes no standardized international English test score of its own; on Thompson Rivers University's general admission page, direct entry to an undergraduate diploma requires IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 20. Students with little or no computer experience are advised to take an introductory computer course covering Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The program's stated intake is September.
