Program details

Overview

The post-diploma certificate builds advanced skills and knowledge for working with children under the age of three. Learning spans skills for supporting families, critical reflection, the professional role carried by an early childhood educator, how infants and toddlers develop, and designing learning experiences suited to this age group's development. Two practica provide the opportunity to connect theory with practice.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This is a post-diploma credential, so entry is built on a completed early childhood qualification rather than on secondary-school courses. Applicants must be graduates of the Early Childhood Education Diploma. If you did not obtain your Early Childhood Education certificate or diploma at TRU, you may be required to take a first-year university-level three-credit English course where your official transcripts do not show it or an equivalent has been completed, together with ECED 2440 or equivalent and ECED 2490 or equivalent. TRU lists the program as open to international applicants and publishes one set of requirements for both applicant types.

Application Details

Start Date: January intake only.
Application Deadline: Program-specific deadline published on the program page: 31 December 2026 for the January 2027 intake. This is the only intake TRU lists for the program. Both applicant types apply through EducationPlannerBC and the page marks the program as open to international applicants; TRU publishes the one date rather than separate domestic and international dates.
