Offered by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Canada, Trades - Apprenticeship in Welder: Apprenticeship is a trades - apprenticeship in Trades programme. The programme runs for 10 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 700 per total for local students.
This program covers the in-school technical-training levels of the Welder apprenticeship at Thompson Rivers University, for candidates who have completed foundation training and are working toward Red Seal certification. Level 3, at ten weeks, is for apprentices who have completed foundation-level welding and logged at least 3,000 workplace hours; passing its exam leads to a Welding Certificate of Qualification under the Interprovincial Red Seal standard, and requires 4,620 hours of workplace-based training overall. Level B, at sixteen weeks, delivers technical training equivalent to Welding Apprenticeship Level 3 for apprentices who are not yet formally registered, and requires 1,620 hours of work experience. Level A, at eight weeks, is an advanced specialty block equivalent to the Welding MPAW endorsement, open to those who have completed Level B and also requiring 1,620 hours of work experience. All levels are delivered at TRU's Kamloops-area welding facilities as part of the province's recognized welding trade pathway. It suits apprentices and tradespeople at different stages of welding certification, from those newly registered with an employer to those consolidating hours toward journeyperson and Red Seal status.

Level A requires the applicant to have completed Welding Level B. Level 3 is open to certified foundation-level welders and to indentured apprentices who have logged 3,000 hours or more of workplace-based training. The parallel Welding Foundation Certificate, the usual entry point before these apprenticeship levels, itself requires high-school graduation or mature-student status, English 11 at 60% or higher, and Math 10 at 60% or higher (any Math 10 or equivalent), plus good vision, hearing and general health. International applicants must also meet Thompson Rivers University's own language bar for direct entry into an undergraduate certificate or diploma program: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 20, per TRU's English requirements page.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply directly to TRU: for the September (Fall) intake the deadline is 1 May, for January (Winter) it is 1 September, and for the May (Summer) intake it is 1 January; applications for most programs open 1 October, and a deadline falling on a weekend or statutory holiday moves to the next working day. International applicants follow the same intake structure with deadlines of 1 May (September), 1 October (January) and 1 February (May); TRU still reviews later applications where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early, so admission runs on a rolling basis around these published cut-offs for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
