Program details
Overview
This Bachelor of Arts program is delivered through The Creative School and centres on producing media content across formats including television, podcasts, radio, augmented and virtual reality, video games, and other transmedia work. Core areas of study include screenwriting, video game design, television and video production, radio and sound, media business, and audience engagement, with first-year courses covering media theory, digital media, audio production, and both multi-camera and single-camera production techniques. The program runs full-time over four years and includes an optional internship; students can also apply for a short-term course involving structured time in Los Angeles to meet industry professionals. Students use dedicated production facilities for radio and virtual production. Admission is grades-only, based on the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum average and required Grade 12 English. The program suits students aiming at production-side media careers, such as broadcast or line producer, screenwriter, or roles at broadcasters and media companies, and who want hands-on training across multiple media formats rather than a single specialization such as journalism or design.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: This is a Grades-Only programme: admission is decided on academic performance alone, with no portfolio or audition. Direct entry requires the OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred) at a minimum of 70%, and an overall average of at least 70% to be considered; the competitive admitting average has run 80-85% depending on application volume and available spaces. Applicants without Ontario schooling may be considered with the recognised equivalent, at TMU's discretion. The programme page defers to the university's general admission requirements for English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no minimum band), TOEFL iBT 92, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 60 or CAEL 70.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Toronto Metropolitan University sets one guaranteed-consideration date for both domestic and international applicants applying for Fall 2027 entry: complete applications and amendments received by 1 February 2027 receive equal consideration for admission, and TMU says this same date applies to 'all domestic & international applicants.' Non-academic ('Grades-Plus') requirements are generally due around this point too, though the exact date varies by programme. For Winter 2027 (January-start) entry, TMU's program-status page gives domestic applicants a guaranteed-consideration date of 1 December 2026, with most programmes closing applications in mid-December; a limited number of programmes separately accept international applications for winter admission subject to space availability, but TMU publishes no fixed closing date for those international winter applicants. Admission is not rolling: late applications are considered only as space allows after the guaranteed-consideration date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
