Overview
Toronto Metropolitan University's Doctor of Philosophy in Policy Studies is an interdisciplinary doctoral program administered by the Faculty of Arts, described by the university as the first program of its kind in Canada. It prepares researchers for positions in academia and in the public, non-profit and private sectors at local, regional, national and international levels. Students complete interdisciplinary coursework drawing on multiple social science and policy-related fields, followed by a comprehensive examination that must be completed by the end of the second year of study, and a dissertation reporting original policy research. First offered in Fall 2009, the program is designed for candidates who already hold a relevant master's degree and are seeking doctoral-level training that crosses conventional disciplinary boundaries in policy analysis. Admission Requirements: Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 3.33/4.33 (B+ or equivalent) in their master's program, per Toronto Metropolitan University's general doctoral admission requirement. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's general graduate English proficiency requirement: TOEFL iBT 93, IELTS Academic 7.0, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 63, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 185, or Duolingo English Test 130.
