Program details

Overview

This Master of Science program prepares students for research careers in occupational health and safety and public health through an interdisciplinary, thesis-based curriculum. Students complete six required courses covering research methods, evidence-based prevention, data analysis, and knowledge synthesis, delivered partly through seminars, plus two elective courses, culminating in an original research thesis. Coursework emphasizes epidemiology, hazard assessment, and translating research evidence into workplace and public health prevention practice. The program is offered full-time; its part-time route is not currently admitting new students. Graduates are prepared for research-focused careers or further doctoral study in occupational health, public health, or related prevention-science fields. The program suits students with a background in health sciences, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline seeking structured, thesis-based research training in prevention science, rather than a professional practice-oriented or course-only credential.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a four-year undergraduate (or equivalent) bachelor's degree, with a minimum grade average of B/3.0 (on a 4.33 scale) in the last two years of study; some graduate programs require a higher minimum average, so applicants should confirm current program-specific requirements before applying. English language proficiency (where required) must meet the general graduate minimum: IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 93, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 63, or Duolingo English Test 130.
