MA/MS in Public Health is a master's degree in Public Health programme taught at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. Tuition for international students is CAD 1,094 per credit (CAD 104 per credit for local students).
Public Health (Non-Thesis) is a 60-credit Master of Science program offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Like the department's thesis-based epidemiology program, it covers the foundations and principles of epidemiology and biostatistics, but applies them specifically to public health research and practice rather than to an independent thesis project. Required coursework, totalling 36 credits, includes fundamentals and intermediate epidemiology, critical appraisal of health sciences literature, inferential statistics, introductory statistical software, data analysis methods for health sciences, foundations of population health, and principles of public health practice. In place of a thesis, the program includes a practicum placement during the summer term following the first year of study, giving students applied, practice-based experience in a public health setting. This non-thesis, coursework-and-practicum structure makes the program suited to students aiming for applied public health practice roles in government, non-profit, or health system settings rather than for those planning further epidemiological research training, and it offers a more practice-oriented public health credential than the department's thesis-based options.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: The M.Sc. Public Health (Non-Thesis) admission page states that applicants need a Bachelor's degree in a related area (basic sciences, health sciences, engineering, or social sciences such as sociology, economics or political science) and evidence of quantitative skills, normally grades of B+ or above in at least two undergraduate courses in differential or integral calculus, other university-level mathematics, or statistics. The Cumulative Grade Point Average required is 3.0/4.0 overall, or at least 3.2/4.0 over the last two years of study, calculated by the University; most successful applicants exceed these minimums, and meeting them does not guarantee admission. Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) is required only in certain cases, per McGill's general policy (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 90); GRE results are optional and can help applicants without a strong quantitative record. The programme admits for the Fall term only.
