Program details

Overview

The Bachelor of Social Work (regular program) is a four-year, 120-credit program. The first year can be completed at Edmundston or Shippagan, with the remaining years at Moncton. The curriculum includes two supervised practicum placements — an 8-credit first practicum and a 12-credit second practicum — alongside coursework in social work theory and practice and related disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and statistics. Admission is capped at 50 students annually across all three campuses and requires a secondary school diploma with a French course and four additional eligible courses at specified minimum grades, with an overall average across the five admission courses. The program aims to prepare generalist social workers equipped to support individuals, families, groups, and communities by mobilizing personal and community resources. It suits students pursuing careers in community, family, or clinical social work practice, combining classroom instruction in social work theory with structured, supervised field placements that build direct practice skills across target populations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a secondary school diploma plus five courses used for admission evaluation: French (FRAN 10411 or equivalent, replaceable by French as a second language or terminal English for immersion graduates) and four additional eligible courses. Minimum grades: 65% in FRAN 10411, 60% in each of the other four courses, and a 70% overall average across all five. Applicants submit an official secondary school transcript (and post-secondary transcripts if applicable, except for Université de Moncton graduates) with the online admission form, plus a $60 application fee. Total admissions to the B.T.S. are capped at 50 students per year. The 4-year program starts at Edmundston or Shippagan, with remaining years at Moncton.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Canadian and permanent-resident applicants apply directly to Université de Moncton by recurring annual deadlines that carry no published calendar year: 31 August for autumn-term entry and 5 January for winter-term entry, with the Baccalauréat en science infirmière (Nursing) and Baccalauréat en design intérieur due 1 February, and the 16-month Baccalauréat en éducation due 1 February at the Moncton campus or 30 June at Shippagan/Edmundston. International applicants must apply by 31 May for autumn entry and 30 September for winter entry, with the 16-month Baccalauréat en éducation due 1 February at Moncton or 31 May at Shippagan/Edmundston. Applications received after these dates are automatically deferred to the following session, and Université de Moncton may close applications earlier if volume is high, so admission is firm rather than rolling. The admissions page's only calendar-year reference is to the Automne 2026 term already under way (registration closes 4 September 2026, classes begin 9 September 2026), which places the source's current context in the 2026-27 academic year; the next occurrences of the recurring deadlines above therefore fall in Hiver 2027 and Automne 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
