This programme leads to a Baccalauréat en linguistique, a 90-credit Bachelor's degree in linguistics at Université de Montréal completed over three years of full-time study, with a part-time option and day classes on the Montreal campus. It covers the scientific study of language across five foundational domains: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Within the programme, students choose one of four specializations: Language and Cognition, Language and Society, Language and Technology, or Indigenous Languages and Cultures. Coursework builds analytical skills for describing and explaining the structure, use, and diversity of human languages. The programme is designed for students interested in how language works as a cognitive, social, and technological phenomenon, preparing them for further graduate study in linguistics or for work in fields such as language technology, speech and language support services, translation-adjacent work, or language documentation and revitalization, particularly through the Indigenous Languages and Cultures specialization.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a minimum cote de rendement collégial (cote R) of 22.0003 for Quebec CEGEP graduates, with unlimited enrolment capacity.
