BA/BS in Bioinformatics is a bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics programme taught at Université de Montréal in Montréal, Canada. The programme runs for 3 years, delivered on campus. Tuition for international students is CAD 32,164 per year (CAD 4,509 per year for local students).
This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics jointly delivered by Université de Montréal's Department of Computer Science and Operations Research and its Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine. It combines computer science and life sciences training, covering topics such as sequence alignment, molecular structure prediction, database searching, genomic annotation, phylogenetics, biochemistry, molecular biology techniques, and programming. Students complete full-time or part-time day courses on the Montreal campus and undertake a mandatory laboratory internship in which they carry out an independent research project. An extended four-year pathway and international study exchanges are available options. Within the program, students choose one of four tracks: genetics and molecular medicine, statistics and machine learning, software engineering, or computer science. The program is designed for students who want to apply computational methods to biological and medical data, preparing them for further study or work in research laboratories, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, or the biotechnology sector. It suits students with an interest in both the life sciences and computing who want a combined, interdisciplinary training rather than a single-discipline degree.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from a Quebec DEC (or equivalent) is offered to three applicant categories: CEGEP graduates, university students with a DEC plus at least 12 completed university credits, and candidates with at least 24 university credits or an equivalent non-Quebec credential; admitted CEGEP students without prior chemistry must also complete Chimie generale as a prerequisite. Admission is competitive, decided solely on the strength of the academic record ("l'excellence du dossier scolaire"): the published minimum cote de rendement collegial (cote R) is 25.0003. Because instruction is in French, applicants who did not complete their prior schooling entirely in French must document French proficiency, either through Quebec's Epreuve uniforme de francais, through 60 or more university credits completed in French, or by scoring at least B2 in oral and written comprehension on an accredited French test (DELF, DALF, TCF, etc.) taken within the previous 24 months. Applications for the Autumn 2027 intake are due 1 March 2027 for CEGEP applicants and 1 February 2027 for university or non-Quebec applicants, with French-proficiency documentation due two weeks later. The programme runs full-time over three years (90 credits), starting in August.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply directly to the Universite de Montreal: for fall entry, undergraduate applications from Quebec CEGEP-only candidates close 1 March and from university-enrolled or non-Quebec candidates close 1 February, except Faculty of Music (15 January for all); graduate applications close 1 February. Winter entry closes 1 November (undergraduate) or 1 September (graduate); summer closes 1 April or 1 February. International applicants, whatever extension a programme's domestic deadline may carry, must submit by 1 April (fall), 1 August (winter) or 1 December (summer) to allow time for immigration processing. These are the university-wide default dates for the 2027 entry cycle; UdeM notes each programme's own descriptive sheet takes precedence. None are rolling; each is a fixed cut-off. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
