Overview
The Master's in Communication Sciences, political communication option, examines communication processes and effects with a focus on political and public-affairs settings. Coursework combines theoretical and methodological training in communication research, covering media, public opinion, political discourse and campaign communication, while remaining attentive to professional practice requirements. The political communication track offers an international variant with an exchange to the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. Students complete 45 credits over three trimesters of lectures and seminars, followed by about a year devoted to writing a thesis or a directed research paper (travail dirige). The programme is delivered in French, full-time or part-time, on the Montreal campus. Admission requires a bachelor's degree, a detailed curriculum vitae, two letters of appreciation, a letter of intent, a short critical-reflection essay, and a sketch of the proposed research project.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree (equivalency assessed for candidates trained outside Quebec). Required application materials include a detailed, dated and signed curriculum vitae, the department's admission form, two letters of appreciation from professors or employers, a letter of intent describing motivation and objectives, a critical-reflection essay of about 300 words, and a sketch of the intended research project of about 1,000 words excluding references. The programme is taught in French.
