This 30-credit undergraduate certificate at UQAT develops general knowledge of social work so students can better address a range of social issues, and helps them adapt interventions to increasingly complex problems faced by vulnerable people. It targets holders of a college diploma wishing to pursue part-time social-work studies, students already registered in a university programme, and people with relevant field experience in social intervention, with a distinct entry route for each group. The required courses cover critical thought and collective intervention, an introduction to social work, child and adolescent development, adult and older-adult development, individual and group social intervention, and family social intervention, plus three elective courses chosen from a cognitive-efficiency workshop, autism spectrum disorder, intercultural intervention, or intellectual and communication skills. Applicants admitted on the experience route must complete the cognitive-efficiency workshop within 12 months of first registering, taken in place of one optional course, and must submit a curriculum vitae together with letters attesting to their professional experience.
