Overview
This 45-credit graduate program in social work, offered by UQAM in extension through UQAT, is delivered in a co-modal format on the Rouyn-Noranda and Mont-Laurier campuses, combining in-person and remote instruction. The research-profile stream builds capacity for social-work research and analysis of social relations shaped by class, gender, ethnicity and generation, emphasizing critical perspectives on existing policies and interventions and on the empowerment of marginalized individuals and communities. After nine credits of core coursework in social-work knowledge and two research-methodology courses, students complete a 27-credit research block consisting of a supervised research project, a research seminar, and an 18-credit research thesis (memoire de recherche), alongside nine elective credits chosen from social-work or related graduate courses. Applicants submit an admission dossier including an approximately five-page study-project proposal. The program is recognized by the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux et therapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Quebec, and graduates earn a Maitrise es arts.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree specialized in social work (or social service) with a cumulative average of at least 3.2 on 4.3, or the equivalent; candidates with an average between 2.8 and 3.2 are reviewed individually by the admission subcommittee and may be required to complete preparatory coursework. Candidates without the specialized degree but with relevant knowledge, appropriate training, and relevant social-work or intervention experience may be admitted on an experience basis, subject to subcommittee review. All candidates must submit an admission dossier including a presentation file (diploma, other training, CV), three letters of recommendation (ideally from an employer, a professor, or another reference), and a three-to-five-page study-project text describing their academic and professional trajectory, their provisional choice of profile, a preliminary research problem, and how the proposed project supports the program's objectives; the subcommittee may require an interview.
