Program details

Overview

This bachelor's program (B.Ing.) provides training in mechanical engineering fundamentals, covering thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanical manufacturing, vibration dynamics, robotics, and automation alongside equipment design and manufacturing processes. The program runs four years full-time for a total of 120 credits. Students complete one mandatory paid internship of 12 to 15 weeks, with up to three additional optional paid internships available. Integrative projects proposed by industry partners give students hands-on design experience, with past examples including mechatronic control systems, optical sorting equipment, and complete machine design developed in collaboration with manufacturers. Two optional concentrations are offered, in sustainable building engineering and in robotics, and some courses are delivered online. The program suits students who enjoy solving problems and designing and creating things, and who bring innovative thinking and the ability to work well in teams. Graduates work as mechanical engineers across a range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, robotics, HVAC systems, biomedical equipment, and industrial manufacturing.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Quebec applicants qualify directly with a DEC in Natural Sciences, Sciences Letters and Arts, Computer Science and Mathematics, or the International Baccalaureate in Sciences; holders of another DEC must complete biology, chemistry, a three-course mathematics sequence and a three-course physics sequence as set out in the university's prerequisite table, with compensatory Université Laval courses available within a two-session window. Applicants from outside Quebec need a 13-year pre-university diploma, or a 12-year diploma plus one year of higher education, with a background judged satisfactory in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology; those with only a secondary diploma follow the preparatory science pathway. Selection is based on the quality of the academic record, with no separate minimum average published. Non-francophone applicants must pass the Test de français (TCF tout public), with French-as-a-second-language coursework available where needed.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic (Quebec and other-Canadian) applicants to Universite Laval apply per trimester: for Automne (Fall) 2027 entry, online applications open August 15, 2026, non-quota bachelor's applications are due March 1, 2027 (late until August 15, 2027) and non-quota graduate applications are due February 1, 2027; Hiver (Winter) 2027 applications are due November 1, 2026 (late until December 1, 2026). Quota programs -- MD, first-cycle PharmD, and bachelor's degrees in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, sexology and biomedical sciences -- close November 1, 2026 for Automne 2027, for all applicants. International applicants face firmer, earlier cutoffs (February 1, 2027 for Automne; July 1, 2026 for Hiver 2027; December 1, 2026 for Ete 2027) given 4-to-6-month immigration processing; a late international application is deferred to a later term rather than accepted for the term requested. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
