This thesis-based Master of Science in Statistics trains students to conduct original research in statistical modelling and the analysis of complex data. Two orientations are available: fundamental statistics, which emphasizes depth of research training, and applied statistics, which focuses on advanced techniques used across a range of scientific and applied domains. The 45-credit programme takes an estimated two years to complete full-time and culminates in a research thesis produced under the supervision of a program professor, with whom students must have an agreement before admission. Students collaborate on multidisciplinary scientific projects as part of their training. Instruction is delivered in French; a working knowledge of a second language, usually English, is expected given the volume of statistical literature published in English. The degree prepares graduates for research and analytical roles in academia, government, and industry, or for continuing to doctoral studies.
