Cert in Community Based Environmental Monitoring Training Program (CEMT)

The Community Based Environmental Monitoring Training Program (CEMT) is a certificate program at University nuhelot'ine thaiyots'i nistameyimâkanak Blue Quills, delivered under an accreditation brokered from Keyano College. The ten-month program combines classroom instruction with field-based study, following the university's semester schedule and starting in January. Students complete ten core courses covering wildlife monitoring, mapping and navigation, vegetation monitoring, water and snow monitoring, air monitoring, habitat monitoring, soil monitoring, Indigenous knowledge and science, Indigenous identity and worldview, and communication and computer skills. Indigenous knowledges and worldviews are integrated with technical environmental monitoring methods throughout the curriculum. The program includes a two-month summer cooperative placement with employers, giving students applied field experience. Credits earned are transferable into related diploma and degree programs. Prospective students are interviewed prior to selection into the program.
