Cert in Environmental Studies

This 30-credit certificate provides a grounding in environmental studies. Three required courses cover the foundations of socio-ecological systems, ecosystems, and a systemic approach to environmental questions; optional courses cover topics such as environmental policy, water environments and their characterization, the socio-ecological transition, critical thinking about environmental data, environmental communication, psychology and environment, soils, environmental law, health and environment, and sustainable development. Graduates are able to situate an environmental issue within its socio-ecological system, understand the impacts of human activity on the environment, and identify approaches to prevent or mitigate those impacts. The certificate is offered full-time or part-time, with admission in the fall and winter terms, at the Sherbrooke campus, and suits students seeking an interdisciplinary introduction to environmental studies.
