Overview
This Bachelor of Science with Major in Immunology and Infection is offered jointly by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and examines the physiological systems that prevent or limit attack by infectious organisms. Students study host responses to pathogens using techniques drawn from microscopy, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genomics, and proteomics. As with other Bachelor of Science majors at the university, students can add an optional minor or double major from more than 60 subjects, allowing them to broaden their studies or concentrate further in immunology and infection. An Honors variant of the major is also offered. The program suits students aiming toward careers such as bacteriologist, epidemiologist, immunologist, virologist, or research scientist, as well as those pursuing further study or work in healthcare-related fields, and appeals to students who want either a broad science background or a specialized focus on infection and immunity.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry, jointly offered by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine. Required Alberta high school courses: English Language Arts 30-1; Mathematics 30-1; two of Physics 30, Chemistry 30, Mathematics 31, Computing Science Advanced or Biology 30; and one subject from Fine Arts, Humanities, Languages other than English or Math/Sciences.
