Program details
Overview
This Honors program in Computing Science is a loosely structured degree for highly motivated students seeking in-depth study, taking advantage of the interdisciplinary nature of computing; the department works with students individually to shape their program of courses. It is one of the University of Alberta's Bachelor of Science with Honors degrees, offered by the Faculty of Science's Department of Computing Science, and is also available as a BSc Major. The Honors track embeds a research thesis project and requires students to maintain a higher academic standard than the Major program; a minor from the Faculty of Arts, Native Studies, Business, or Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences may be added, though a double major is not available. The department's research strengths span artificial intelligence, robotics, multimedia, computer games, software and database systems, machine learning, and bioinformatics. Graduates commonly pursue roles such as application developer, computer programmer, database designer, robotics engineer, software engineer, systems analyst, and video game designer.
