Program details
Overview
The Bachelor of Science with Honors in Data Science, Statistics Option is an interdisciplinary program in the Faculty of Science combining computing science, mathematics and statistics. Students learn to apply data science tools, study the principles behind them, and develop new methods as the field evolves; the Statistics option emphasizes statistical modelling, inference, regression, and statistical learning methods for analysing real-world data. As a Bachelor of Science with Honors, the program embeds a research thesis project and requires students to maintain a higher academic standard than the equivalent BSc Major, which is also offered in this subject area. Students may add a minor from the Faculty of Arts, Native Studies, Business, or Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, though doing so reduces the number of option courses available; a double major is not offered alongside the Honors program. Graduates commonly pursue roles such as data scientist, data analyst, database developer, business intelligence analyst, quantitative analyst, or statistical modeler.
