The Doctor of Pharmacy for Practicing Pharmacists is a post-professional program intended for graduates who already hold a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree, distinguishing it from the entry-to-practice PharmD offered to students without that prior credential. The program combines coursework with practical experience intended to help graduates practice to a full scope of pharmacy competence as part of an interdisciplinary care team, across settings such as hospitals, primary and family care clinics, and community practice, while also building knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities relevant to healthcare organizations and government agencies. It can be completed either full-time or part-time through distance study, accommodating pharmacists who continue to work while completing the degree. The program is delivered by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, described on the page as the only pharmacy school in Alberta and as one of the few schools in Canada offering a post-professional PharmD for practicing pharmacists. It suits licensed, practicing pharmacists seeking advanced patient-care education beyond their initial pharmacy degree.
