Program details
Overview
This is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) delivered through the University of Calgary's Indigenous Community Route, allowing students to complete the degree without leaving their home community. Instruction uses a blended delivery model that combines theory courses with hands-on labs, alongside clinical placements arranged in the student's local area. Core coursework includes Introduction to Nursing, Indigenous Health Studies, Nursing Amid Complexity, Evidence-Informed Nursing, and Nursing as Ethical Practice. The program emphasizes collaborative, team-based learning alongside peers and includes practicum experience that provides hands-on professional learning in nursing practice settings. Graduates are prepared to register as nurses and support the health of their communities across settings such as community agencies, home health care, acute hospitals, and outpatient services, in urban or rural locations. The route is designed for students connected to Indigenous communities who want to train as registered nurses while remaining close to home.

All applicants whose primary language of instruction was not English must separately meet the university's English language proficiency requirement.
