The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) is a course-based, professional graduate degree at the University of Calgary accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Council (LAAC). The program trains landscape architects to address environmental and urban challenges, including urban design, parks planning, climate adaptation, and habitat restoration, primarily through interdisciplinary design studios built around real-world projects. Applicants without an undergraduate landscape architecture degree complete an additional foundation year of eight courses before the core two-year, full-time program of thirteen core and three elective courses; some applicants with related design credentials may have the foundation year waived. The program is delivered on campus and admits students in the Fall term, with expected full-time completion of two years beyond the foundation year and a maximum completion window of six years. Admission is based on academic record, a digital portfolio, resume, statement of interest, and reference letters rather than standardized test scores.
