Program details
Overview
Bio-Medical Science is a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) major at the University of Guelph providing a broad, integrated foundation in human and animal health. Coursework spans physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, epidemiology, immunology, pathology, and nutrition across a 20-credit, eight-semester (four-year) curriculum, with flexibility to lean toward human-health or animal-health interests. Students take hands-on dissection courses, including human anatomy taught directly from human body donors, alongside a comparative anatomy course involving animal dissection. Students entering directly from high school continue into second year based on cumulative average: a 75% average guarantees continuation in the major, a 70-74.9% average is considered competitively based on space, and an average below 70% moves students to the Biological Science major. The program prepares graduates for professional programs such as medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy, as well as further study and careers in research, industry, government, and education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Bio-Medical Science Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from the top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Guelph does not publish fixed minimum cut-offs; year-to-year cut-offs are set by the quality and quantity of applications received and the space available in the program, and the university's own estimated ranges do not guarantee an offer of admission. All offers remain conditional on completing the OSSD (or equivalent), the required six courses, and achieving the minimum final average stated in the offer.
