Program details
Overview
Engineering Systems and Computing is a four-year Bachelor of Engineering program that combines computer science with electrical engineering to design integrated, computer-based engineering systems. Students focus on designing, constructing, implementing, and maintaining the software and hardware components of modern computing systems, with coursework spanning software development, computing hardware design, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, and control and modelling. Elective concentrations are available in control systems, biomedical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, embedded systems, the Internet of Things, software-hardware systems, and human-centred computing. A co-operative education option extends the program to five years with five work terms. The University of Guelph describes the program as the only one of its kind in Canada focused on designing integrated, computer-based engineering systems. Graduates pursue careers in embedded systems, robotics, automation, and software-hardware integration, or continue to graduate study in engineering and computing.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Engineering Systems and Computing Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from their top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Cut-off averages vary by year based on application volume and space available, and Guelph publishes program-specific course and average guidance through its admission requirements search tool.
