Agricultural Studies is a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science major at the University of Lethbridge examining the social, economic, political and environmental factors affecting agriculture, from farm-level production to international policy. The program blends theoretical and applied perspectives, with extensive lab experience and a focus on current issues and research, and draws on courses from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geography and Economics. Students gain broad exposure to agriculture and agri-food topics such as policy development, land-use implications and the farm as a production unit, alongside emerging developments in genetic engineering, precision farming and animal nutrition. An optional honours thesis is available in the fourth year for students with a sufficiently high GPA, and minors from other disciplines can be added. Graduates may pursue registration with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and can go on to careers or graduate study across agricultural science, policy, business and environmental fields.
