The Master of Arts in Urban and Regional Studies at the University of Lethbridge examines the physical, social, economic, and political factors that shape cities, addressing issues such as immigration, climate change, aging populations, housing, and urban governance. Students complete three to six graduate-level courses, or the equivalent of 9.0 to 18.0 credit hours, alongside an original thesis and a thesis oral defence conducted under faculty supervision. The program is delivered in person on the Lethbridge campus, with intakes in the Summer, Fall, and Winter terms. As with other thesis-based programs in the department, applicants must secure a potential supervisor before submitting their application. Full-time students normally complete the degree in 24 months, while part-time students may take up to 48 months. The program equips graduates with research and analytical skills for careers in urban planning, policy, and related fields, or for further doctoral study.
