The Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering applies engineering principles to biologically based systems involving plants, animals, humans, and microorganisms, combining foundational engineering training with biological concepts to address problems in living systems. The program runs four to five years and is offered in both traditional and co-operative education formats; the Co-operative Education and Industrial Internship Program (Co-op/IIP) provides students with paid field experience. Specialization options include Biomedical Engineering, Bioresource Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, alongside an Agribusiness minor. Direct Entry from high school requires Manitoba high school graduation with five full Grade 12 credits (S, G, or U) and a minimum 80% average over English 40S, Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S, Chemistry 40S, and Physics 40S, with no less than 70% in each; admission is competitive and higher averages may be required if eligible applicants exceed available spaces. Progression from the preliminary year requires at least 8 of the 12 Preliminary Engineering courses completed with a minimum grade of C in each and a minimum Adjusted GPA (AGPA) of 2.0. Students choose the Biosystems Engineering discipline after completing the required preliminary coursework; the university mathematics requirement for Engineering is met by MATH 1510 or MATH 1710.
