Program details

Overview

The Electrical Engineering program at the University of Manitoba, offered by the Price Faculty of Engineering, leads to a Bachelor of Science accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board, typically completed in four to five years. The curriculum follows a core-plus-elective structure, beginning with foundational courses in mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering fundamentals before moving into specialized coursework and electives, and concluding with a capstone group design project in the final year. An optional Co-operative Education and Industrial Internship Program allows students to complete paid work terms that count toward professional engineering designation. Instruction is delivered in person on the Fort Garry campus. Students can pursue focus areas in biomedical engineering, communication devices, power and energy systems, or engineering physics, with optional minors also available. The program suits students interested in developing solutions using electrical and electronic devices, spanning applications from clean energy to biomedical technology.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Price Faculty of Engineering admission, shared by all five engineering majors (Biosystems, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical) via a common first year — not Electrical Engineering-specific. Direct Entry (Manitoba high school students, fewer than 24 post-secondary credit hours): minimum average of 80% over English 40S, Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S, Chemistry 40S, and Physics 40S, with no less than 70% in each course. Advanced Entry: for applicants with 24+ post-secondary credit hours, including the preliminary-year engineering route. Entry into the Electrical Engineering major itself requires first completing a minimum of 8 of the 12 first-year engineering courses (e.g. MATH 1210, MATH 1510/1710, PHYS 1050, CHEM 1100, ENG 1430/1440/1450/1460, COMP 1012) with at least a C in each, ranked by the best 8 grades. Meeting these minimums does not guarantee admission.
