Economic Studies at UNB Fredericton is a Bachelor of Arts program examining decision-making at personal and political levels and its bearing on issues such as poverty, climate change, health care, international development, globalization, immigration, financial institutions, and government regulation. Compared to a conventional economics degree, the program places less emphasis on economic theory and statistics and more on policy and its applications. Students can pursue work-study opportunities, exchange programs abroad, and conferences and workshops, developing skills in policy analysis, communication, and statistical and quantitative analysis. Sample courses include Principles of Microeconomics: Critical Perspectives, International Economics: Trade, Environmental Economics, and Introduction to Law and Economics. The program is offered through the Department of Economics and leads toward roles such as policy analyst, banker, consultant, and civil servant.

Admission Requirements: The programme page does not set its own admission criteria; it directs applicants to the Faculty of Arts entry in UNB's admission requirements tool. UNB's published Bachelor of Arts minimums (New Brunswick applicants) require the overall average of Grade 12 academic (New Brunswick level 2, or the equivalent level-1, French Immersion or advanced course) university-preparatory marks in English 122/Français 10411 at a minimum grade of 60%, four further electives from Group 1, and one additional elective from Group 1, 2 or 3, for a minimum admission average of 65%; meeting the minimum does not guarantee a seat.
